The Shropshire Humanist Group was formed in 2006 as a voice for those in the region who live decent and useful lives without superstitious belief and without religion. We are affiliated to the British Humanist Association and come together to discuss relevant issues and to meet up with those of a like mind.
We believe that the growth of fundamentalist religious beliefs can represent a real threat. Although we have no wish to dictate what other people think we are firmly of the view that personal beliefs are essentially private matters and should have no influence in our legislative system or our state-funded education system.
The Group aims to campaign for those issues both locally and nationally and aspires to grow to provide a local voice. A welcome will be given to those who have sympathy with these objectives or wish to find out more.
The group meets informally from time to time in a pub for discussion and arranges more formal get-togethers, often with an outside speaker. A newsletter keeps members in touch with events.
Membership subscription is £10 a year. An application form can be downloaded from this website.
Details of meetings and events can be found on our Meetings and Events page.
Shropshire Humanist Group is affiliated to the British Humanist Association (BHA).
The group sends a representative to the Shropshire/Telford and Wrekin Standing Advisory Council For Religious Education (SACRE).
